Listed Pitchers: Tallet / McCarthy
Be sure to check the pitchers…they tend to flip flop them on double headers!
Blue Jays: Tallet last started for the Blue Jays on Aug. 15, when the Rays tagged the veteran left-hander for five runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss at Tropicana Field. The 31-year-old is 5-7 with a 5.17 ERA in 19 starts this season, while posting an 0-1 record and a 4.71 ERA in 12 appearances out of the Toronto bullpen. Lifetime against the Rangers, Tallet is 1-1 with a 1.23 ERA in 14 2/3 frames.
Rangers: McCarthy has been on the disabled list since June 8 with a stress fracture in his right shoulder blade. He pitched six shutout innings in his last medical rehab start, at Triple-A Oklahoma City, and has a 2.18 ERA in his past four rehab starts. McCarthy hasn’t started a Major League game since June 4 against the Yankees and has been reworking his mechanics since then. He is 2-2 with a 4.15 ERA in seven games, including four starts, against the Blue Jays in his career.

Listed Pitchers: Carrasco / Jackson
Indians: The right-hander will make his Major League debut for the Indians against the Tigers. Cleveland got Carrasco in the Cliff Lee trade with the Phillies earlier this summer, and now they’ll get their first look at him. He’ll come up from Triple-A Columbus, and the Indians won’t have to make a corresponding move since on Sept. 1, teams can expand their rosters to 40.
Tigers: Before Jackson gets a matchup with his old employers, the Tampa Bay Rays, he’ll have another meeting with a Cleveland offense he has handled well this year, giving him a chance at a late-season rebound heading into September. Though he battled blistering temperatures last Wednesday afternoon at Angel Stadium to hit the high 90s on his fastball, it was his secondary stuff that gave reason for encouragement, particularly a nasty biting slider. He took the loss nonetheless with four runs allowed over 6 1/3 innings, including a two-run homer to Torii Hunter.

Listed Pitchers: Lester / Sonnanstine
Red Sox: Unbeaten in his past seven starts, Lester yielded three runs on four hits over 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Tuesday at Fenway Park. The 25-year-old southpaw has posted a quality start in each of his past five outings, allowing three earned runs or fewer in 15 of his previous 16 appearances dating back to May 31.
Rays: Sonnanstine will be recalled from Triple-A Durham to fill the gap in the rotation left by the Scott Kazmir trade, but Rays manager Joe Maddon did not commit to Sonnanstine for more than the one start, leaving that thought with a “wait and see.” Sonnanstine began the season in the Rays’ rotation before getting optioned to Durham on June 27. He has pitched well at Durham, where he is 5-3 with a 4.40 ERA in nine starts. He is 2-1 with a 5.08 ERA in seven career starts against the Red Sox; he is 13-9 with a 5.06 ERA in 31 career starts at Tropicana Field.
