Super Bowl 50 Picks
The Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos will battle at Levi’s Stadium this Sunday in a matchup of the top seeds in either conference. It’s the third consecutive Super Bowl that has the No. 1 seeds from both the AFL and NFL squaring off. Here’s our final prediction for the game along with a couple of fun props to bet on.
Carolina Panthers (-6) @ Denver Broncos (+6)
After a very impressive season, the NFC champion Panthers are 6-point favorites to win the Super Bowl. Not only did they win 15 of their 16 regular season games, they also looked strong while discarding the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals in the NFC playoffs. They outscored Seattle and Arizona 80-39, proving that Cam Newton continues to have the league’s leading offense on a roll. The defense, which boasts four Pro Bowlers, is quite strong too. They led the league in takeaways and posted a +20 turnover margin. The Cardinals found out first hand just how suffocating they can be as the Cards were forced into six turnovers in the NFC Championship Game.
The AFC champion Broncos had a tougher time getting to the Super Bowl, beating Pittsburgh by seven and then New England by two. Their defense carried them, but Peyton Manning also seems to be settling into his new role of game manager. He hasn’t thrown an interception in the postseason after throwing 17 in nine games in the regular season.
While he’s played better as of late, it’s tough to forget about those 17 picks given how good the Panthers are with turnovers. Denver’s defense has to win this game for the Broncos. Their squad has been excellent during the postseason, but Ben Roethlisberger was hurt during their divisional matchup, and Tom Brady’s offensive line was terrible in the AFC Championship game. The Broncos will be facing a different beast in the Panthers, whose offense has scored more points than any other team. The Panthers have been the best team in the league all season, and they’ll likely wrap it up with a Super Bowl win in San Francisco.
Best Halftime Prop
Coldplay was selected as the halftime act for Super Bowl 50, and a number of props revolve around their performance. It’s been confirmed that Beyonce will join them as a guest, and you can bet on what kind of shoes she’ll wear. Classic black is available at +150.
Best Wacky Prop
There’s a prop that compares the Donald Trump percentage points in the New Hampshire primary (-200) versus the total points scored by the winning team in Super Bowl 50. In this spot, look for Trump to cash in. Recall that Super Bowl 50 is a matchup of two quality defensive teams that typically thrive on running the football. This could be a grind-it-out type of contest with the winner being around 20 points. Trump should be able to top that comfortably.
