The marquee game in Week 6 of the NFL season is when Dallas visits Seattle on Sunday in the only matchup of teams with just one loss on record. Both the Cowboys and Seahawks are tied for first in their respective divisions. The Seahawks are 8-point favorites at Bovada, and the game has a total of 47. Seattle’s success is no surprise. The Seahawks have been among the Super Bowl favorites ever since routing Denver in February’s big game. Seattle’s only loss came in Week 2 at the hands of San Diego. This will be a short week for the team as the Seahawks won 27-17 in Washington on Monday night. The game really shouldn’t have been that close as Seattle had three Percy Harvin touchdowns called back by penalty. Quarterback Russell Wilson had a fantasy football dream game with three total touchdowns, 201 yards passing and a career-high 122 yards rushing. He was the first 200/100 player in Monday Night Football history.
The Seahawks are -160 favorites to win the NFC West, +180 to win the NFC again and +400 to win the Super Bowl.
Dallas was a long shot to win the Super Bowl when the season started, and the Cowboys were also last to win the NFC East. The Cowboys entered this season off three straight 8-8 seasons and appeared to not have added much talent in the offseason. However, last season’s historically bad defense has improved under new coordinator Rod Marinelli.
Perhaps the biggest surprise is that the offense has become dominant not on the arm of Tony Romo but the feet of DeMarco Murray. He leads the NFL in
rushing by more than 200 yards with 670 on the season. That puts him on pace for an NFL-record of 2,144 if he plays all 16 games. Murray is also averaging 26 carries a game and is on pace to tie former Chief Larry Johnson’s NFL record of 416. There’s no way that Murray can keep that up.
Murray would tie an NFL record set by Browns Hall of Famer Jim Brown in 1958 with his sixth straight 100-yard game to start a season on Sunday. But that will be tough considering Seattle is No. 1 in the NFL in rush defense, allowing just 62.3 yards per game (2.6 yards per carry). The Seahawks are No. 1 in rushing offense too, so it’s clear where this game will likely be decided.
Bovada oddsmakers clearly aren’t sold on Dallas just yet. The Cowboys are still +2500 to win the Super Bowl, +1400 to win the NFC and +190 second favorites to the Eagles in the NFC East. Those odds will all shrink if they beat Seattle, where the Seahawks have won 19 of their past 20.
