Home Run Derby Props and Betting Odds
Since I was a kid, the Home Run Derby has been one of my annual favorite events. Many years, I wouldn’t even watch the MLB All-Star Game, but would tune in for the derby.
I’ve won betting on the home run derby several times by choosing 2 players that were the longest odds for winning. I wouldn’t suggest mortgaging your home or anything, but a small play on some long shots could pay off. I also tend to favor players with the smoothest swinging motion, as they will get less tired as the round goes on. Home run derby props are also fun to bet a few dollars on to keep it interesting. Enough about me, here’s what you need to know for betting on the 2021 Home Run Derby!
2021 Home Run Derby details
- Tonight, July 12, 2021
- 8:00 pm ET
- Coors Field, Denver, Colorado
- ESPN / ESPN2
2021 HR Derby Format
The home run derby is a timed, head-to-head bracket format. Each participant is paired with another player and they have 4 minutes per round to hit as many dingers as possible. This is opposed to the old format of “outs” where players could wait for the perfect pitches. Today, they take more swings and the pace is much more enjoyable to watch.
If a player hits 2 homers that are greater than or equal to 440 feet, their time is extended by 30 seconds. This is bound to happen with Coors Field as the hosting ballpark.
