On to the tale of the tape. The Yankees sit on top of the competitive AL East and boast the second-best record in the majors. But after rolling to the top of their division things have slowed down in the Bronx. New York has lost four of seven, and are missing two aces to injury, CC Sabathia and Andy Pettitte.

Josh Beckett’s return to start for Boston. Despite three loses in a row and a no decision Beckett has been solid on the mound. In the no decision Beckett pitched six innings and gave up two-runs versus Seattle on June 30; his first start since sitting out with shoulder soreness.
Things get hazy for bettors on Saturday. It hasn’t been announced who will be starting the first double header for New York, but it will be either Phil Hughes (9-6, 4.29 ERA) or Fred Garcia (2-2, 5.94 ERA). Hughes has the better numbers this year, his last outing he struck out eight and walked one in an eight-inning, two-run win versus the White Sox. But he’s been consistently blown up by Boston (2-5 with a 6.65 ERA in his career); David Ortiz’ numbers versus Hughes are .471 with two home runs and seven RBI. If anyone is getting multiple hits on Saturday, Ortiz is the best bet.
Sunday Ivan Nova (9-3, 4.05 ERA) looks to rebound after giving up six runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks against Tampa Bay. In the game Nova struggled with his command, if he loses control versus Boston on national TV things could get ugly fast. Nova’s opponent, Jon Lester, has solid career numbers versus the Yanks (8-3, 4.15 ERA) but last year he was brutal, going 2-2 with a 6.66 ERA. There could be a lot of runs in the series finale.
Other MLB Live Bets to Watch
Bovada Live Betting is offering the Chicago Cubs (30-50) at the New York Mets (44-38) on Sunday, and it could be a lopsided affair. The Cubs are 11-30 on the road and Cubs starter Chris Volstad (0-7, 7.94) is still looking for his first win of the season. Jon Niese (7-3, 3.35 ERA) is the starter for New York, he boasts three-straight quality starts.
